James W. Backner

James Backner is a hands-on entrepreneur and disciplined leader with over 25 years of experience in mortgage banking, acquisition of distressed real estate and notes, repositioning of properties, and disposition of real estate. At Strategic Holdings, Mr. Backner’s duties include supervising the sourcing of potential investment opportunities, performing due diligence, and facilitating acquisitions. Post-acquisition, Mr. Backner supervises the repositioning, property management, and eventual sale of all acquired assets.

Prior to forming Strategic Holdings, Mr. Backner was the President and Managing Member of a real estate investment firm which specialized in the acquisition, management, and disposition of distressed real estate from which over 40 million dollars of residential real estate was acquired, renovated and sold between 2008 and 2013.  Mr. Backner also has extensive experience in the real estate mortgage business, as he founded a successful boutique mortgage brokerage and banking firm that funded over five hundred million dollars in mortgage loans over the course of 10 years.  The firm utilized a warehouse line of credit to fund mortgage loans and sell them to institutional investors.  Mr. Backner supervised all aspects of the business including marketing, originations, underwriting, funding, and closed loan sales.

Mr. Backner graduated from California State University, Northridge in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Finance.
